CRIRSCO
Edmund (Ed) Sides is a resource geologist who graduated in Geology from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and subsequently obtained MSc (Mineral Exploration) and PhD degrees from Imperial College, London.
He has spent most of his over forty-year career working in the mining industry, initially as an exploration geologist, and subsequently as a resource geologist. He has also spent several years working in education and training.
During the last 20 years he has worked as a consultant focusing mostly on mineral resource estimation and mineral project reviews. In recent years has been spending much of his time working for professional organisations on a voluntary basis.
He has been a member of the Pan-European Reserves and Resources Reporting Committee (PERC) since 2014 and is currently the Chairperson of PERC, as well as being one of PERC’s two representatives on the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO). At the 2023 CRIRSCO AGM he was appointed as Deputy Chair of CRIRSCO and took up this role at the start of 2024.
The role of CRIRSCO aligned codes and standards in minerals reporting
Background will be provided on the need for international standardisation in the reporting of estimates of the size and quality of mineral assets will be provided, including a brief introduction to the evolution of different reporting systems. The development of CRIRSCO (The Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards), including its reporting principles, standard definitions and international reporting template will be discussed. CRIRSCO’s role in providing a framework for standard reporting of mineral resources and mineral reserves to investors and their advisors will be explained. CRIRSCO’s expansion over the past two decades from 5 to 15 members, including MPIGM (Mongolia), KAZRC (Kazakhstan) and UMREK (Turkey) in the Central Asian region, will be discussed. The interest of other countries in the region in joining CRIRSCO will also be covered.
